Day 1 – Monday 11th February

We arrived at Castle Head at 12 noon excited for the challenges and adventures ahead of us. We met our group leaders, Al and Sarah and had a tour of Castle Head. Our first challenge was making our own beds. We then had our packed lunch and were kitted out with our waterproofs and wellies.

We learned new skills when we went orienteering.  In teams, we used maps to find points to stamp a card and raced to be the first team to find 10 points. This was a great way to get to know our surroundings.

We had lots of fun on the obstacle course. There was some great teamwork and communication, helping each other to climb and crawl our way around the course. Our confidence grew with every obstacle we completed. Muddy good fun!

We then went to the dining hall to refuel ready for our next adventure. We had orange soup followed by bangers and mash or cheese and tomato tart and rice pudding with blueberries for dessert.

Our next adventure was great fun. We enjoyed a night walk around the grounds of Castle Head. We learned about local wildlife hunting for animal tracks and used an i-pad app to stargaze. We saw two spring lambs on our stroll! Shortbread and hot chocolate was enjoyed before bed.

Day 2 – Tuesday 12th February

After a good nights sleep, our day started at 7am. We enjoyed a choice of cereals, toast and porridge with a variety toppings for breakfast and made our own packed lunches.

Students made their way around the low ropes course then challenged themselves on the crate stack challenge. The group worked together to climb towers as they built them. An impressive 13 crates was achieved!

We wrapped up warm and went on the minibus to our walks. Group 1 enjoyed a wintery walk around Tarn Hows where we made friends with some local wildlife! Group 2 scrambled up to the summit of Gummers How. With misty weather we unfortunately didn’t see the views of Windermere but nevertheless felt a sense of achievement in reaching the top. On both walks, true team spirit was shown with students helping and encouraging each other…and sharing jelly babies to keep us fuelled along the way!

After the excitement of the days adventures we enjoyed a meal of green soup, chicken pie or cottage pie and apple and berry crumble for dessert.

In the evening we took part in a choice of social activities. Some chose to play games including Get a Grip, card games and Pie Face! Some enjoyed a ‘pamper night’. We sang Happy Birthday to Mrs Sharp and played party games.

Day 3 – Wednesday 13th February

After breakfast we headed out to sunshine for our last activities. We worked in teams to build shelters and had a go at fire lighting. We enjoyed a hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on the campfire.
