9th July 2021
Dear Parent/Carer(s)
As we draw close to the end of the school year I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued and unrelenting support. This last school year has been an exceptionally challenging one for everybody associated with the school community, but we have all worked tirelessly together to ensure that we could continue to provide the highest level of educational as well as personal support for all of our students and families.
Personally, I am so thankful for the hard work, determination and resilience that the students and staff have shown this year despite all the unprecedented challenges we have faced, of which there have been many. The students have been a true credit to all parents, carers and the community. I am so proud of the West Lancs family and how we continue to work together to get through the ups and downs of this global pandemic. I would like to pay tribute to the way that students, parents and staff have coped with the current situation. It is impossible to have imagined us having to work in such circumstances, and I am enormously grateful for your understanding, positivity and generosity. We have all needed to make significant compromises in terms of the way in which we have functioned and lived our lives. The messages of support and positive feedback that you have given to us have been appreciated more than we can say.
The school will close to students on Friday 16th July 2021 at 1.30 pm for the start of their summer holidays and will re-open for all students on Thursday 2nd September 2021 at 8.45am.
There will be a change to the school term dates for the 2021/2022 academic year. This is due to the addition of an extra Bank Holiday next year to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The additional Bank Holiday is allocated in the current Whitsun holiday and therefore schools have be allowed to allocate a day at another time during the school year. We have decided that this additional day on which school will be closed will be Friday 29th April 2022. An updated term dates list is on the school website https://www.westlancs.lancs.sch.uk/term-dates
Goodbye and Good Luck!
It is always sad to say goodbye to members of our team at this time of year. Mrs Reston and Mrs McMath will be leaving us to explore pastures new as they retire from the education profession. On behalf of the school community, past and present, I would like to thank them for their time at West Lancs and wish them well for the future.
A small group of students are also leaving us to embark on their new adventures at college. I am so proud of this group of students. They have been such positive ambassadors for our school and have been a delight to have around. We will miss your smiles! Please come back and let us know how you are getting on.
Welcome
We have a number of new faces joining us in September and I am sure they will all be made to feel welcome as part of the West Lancs family. Mrs Kelly will be joining as a teacher in the Key Stage 5 (Post 16) department. Mrs Swords and Mr Yaxley will be joining Key Stage 3 as teaching assistants, and Mr Booth will be joining the school as an IT technician.
Finally, may I wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable summer break.
Yours sincerely
L Fazackerley
