KS4 were very privileged to be invited to the STEM Festival 2024 (Science Technology Engineering Maths) at West Lancashire College.

The Students enjoyed a Trip through Space and Time. KS4 learnt all about the history and future of space inside the wonder dome.

We attended a presentation from Matalan, and were very surprised to learn all about carbon emissions, how much emissions we make at home, and the weight of the CO2 we produce. Did you know each person contributes on average 1 Metric Tonne of CO2 in new clothes and accessories.

There was also presentations from Mike Dargan of Dashbo talking about special effects make up for tv and film; Jessica Gagen, Miss Europe and Aerospace Engineer, talking about her fashion career and STEM careers for women; and Derry Green from The Secret Garden Glamping (As seen on Dragons Den) talking about his entrepreneurship and business.

Some students also visited the Motor Vehicles department and got to see a real life formula one car undergo a wheel change. We were very surprised to hear that a formula one car is only one third of the weight of a normal car and can get up to between 220mph and 300mph.

All our pupils were engaged and well behaved and did the school proud.

We are all very thankful for the lovely day the college provided for us with a bespoke timetable, lunches and fantastic guides to show us around.
